If you love what’s new and different on global rivers, you’re likely happy about Viking’s announcement this month about its first ever India river-and-land itinerary. Here’s the scoop about what we know so far about this new Viking river region in Asia.
The line will sail India’s Brahmaputra River with a new, 80-passenger Viking Brahmaputra. Currently under construction, the new river vessel will debut in late 2027.
The ship will sail on a new eight-day river voyage between Guwahati and Nimati Ghat in the northeastern state of Assam.

New Viking River Region
But that’s just one part of Viking’s new 15-day “Wonders of India” river-and-land itinerary. Operating roundtrip from Delhi, India, this enticing new journey will also include a fully guided land program.
Guests will also overnight on land in Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. “With its rich heritage, deep cultural traditions and fascinating natural wonders, India is a vast and vibrant country that has captured the imagination of explorers for centuries,” says Torstein Hagen, Viking’s chairman and CEO.
“In recent years, our guests have particularly enjoyed visiting Indian ports on our ocean itineraries,” he explains. Shelby Steudle, president, Pavlus Travel, also believes “the new India itinerary will truly allow Pavlus’ travelers to explore the heart of India, in-depth and in Viking comfort.”
New Viking River Itinerary and Ship
Viking loyalists and first-time Viking guests alike will likely love sailing on the line’s new Viking Brahmaputra. Featuring Viking’s signature Scandinavian design, the new three-deck vessel will host 80 guests in 40 outside staterooms.
The river vessel’s staterooms and suites will all have floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors with a veranda. Guests on the three-deck Viking Brahmaputra will also enjoy a range of amenities. So, get ready for the Spa & Fitness Center, the ship’s lounge (see photo below) and an open-air Sky Bar on the Upper Deck.

Included Viking Tours
With 13 included tours, guests will be immersed in India’s cultural treasures. Another plus? Travelers will have opportunities to experience as many as 10 UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
They’ll delve into the rich history of India’s Golden Triangle. They’ll explore Agra’s fabled Taj Mahal, stroll through Old Delhi’s winding streets and glimpse Jaipur‘s ornate Palace of Winds.
While sailing the Brahmaputra River, guests will see Guwahati’s temple and encounter thriving villages along its banks. At Kaziranga National Park, they’ll search for the one-horned rhinos and buffalo.
They’ll also discover the cultures of Majuli, one of the world’s largest river islands.
New Viking River Region: Fares and Special Deals

At press time, fares for the 15-day “Wonders of India” river-and-land itinerary began at $11,499 per person, double occupancy. “But chat with your personal travel advisor for the latest and greatest deals or any special amenity or perk,” advises Steudle.
For example, from now through July 31, 2025, Viking is offering North American travelers savings of up to $5,000 per couple. Plus, they could receive airfare starting from $999. And only a $25 deposit is required through that date on the new “Wonders of India” itinerary.
More to Enhance the Experience

For example, those appealing extensions include:
