What’s become a hot trend in themed voyages this year? It’s the growth of solar eclipse cruising. In the latest development, ultra-luxury Seabourn has unveiled two new Solar Eclipse cruises exploring Northern Europe and the Mediterranean in late summer 2026.

Here’s the rundown on what’s happening. On August 12, 2026, the moon will pass between Earth and the sun to create a total solar eclipse. At that moment, both Seabourn Ovation and Seabourn Sojourn will be strategically aligned to grant guests a unique viewing opportunity of the rare spectacle.

Of course, guests’ eclipse viewing experience can always shift based on Mother Nature’s whim (weather or cloud coverage). But Seabourn’s ships will be positioned well to provide the best chance of seeing the solar eclipse.

“The viewing of the solar eclipse from our ultra-luxury ships will be an unforgettable ‘Seabourn Moment’ for everyone on board,” says Natalya Leahy, Seabourn’s president.  “Our team has curated a series of captivating, eclipse-themed Seabourn Conversations and experiences, turning this celestial event into an extraordinary celebration for everyone on board.”

Solar Eclipse Cruise: Two Options

Here’s what we know so far. According to the National Solar Observatory of the U.S. National Science Foundation, the 2026 total eclipse will pass over the Arctic OceanGreenlandIceland, the AtlanticPortugal, and Spain.

So, Seabourn plans to strategically align Seabourn Ovation and Seabourn Sojourn for the best viewing opportunities.

“West Ireland Gems & Solar Eclipse”

One new solar eclipse cruise is Seabourn Ovation’s 14-day “West Ireland Gems & Solar Eclipse” voyage. This 600-passenger ship will set sail from Dover, England, to Reykjavik, Iceland, on August 8, 2026.

Along the route, the ship will visit unique ports in western Ireland, including Galway and Killybegs. The captain will then position the ship in the best spot off Ireland’s coast for eclipse viewing.

“One enrichment highlight for guests is that Seabourn will host a special Seabourn Conversations program with expert commentary about the eclipse,” reports Shelby Steudle, president, Pavlus Travel. “That will feature Jane A. Green, a fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society.”

The two-week cruise is one of several that Seabourn Ovation is scheduled to undertake in Northern Europe in summer 2026. The ship has a new fine dining specialty restaurant, Solis (shown in the photo below).

“Spanish Gems & Solar Eclipse”

Alternatively, Seabourn’s guests can watch the eclipse unfold on Seabourn Sojourn’s new 10-Day “Spanish Gems & Solar Eclipse” itinerary roundtrip from Barcelona on August 7, 2026. That Mediterranean itinerary includes Spanish Morocco, St. Tropez in France, and destinations along the Spanish coastline.

As the eclipse commences, the 458-passenger ship will be positioned in the Balearic Sea off the coast of Spain. Seabourn tells us that the eclipse will be visible closer to the horizon near sunset.

This voyage will also host a special Seabourn Conversations program about the eclipse. The expert speaker will be Dallas Campbell, a science presenter, author and broadcaster.

Seabourn says the viewing experience may change based on weather or cloud coverage. But the two new voyages will give guests a decent shot at experiencing this natural phenomenon.

Solar Eclipse Cruise: Good to Know?

Seabourn guests will experience the all-inclusive “Seabourn Difference” aboard these two ships. Both offer a private yacht-like atmosphere.

It will also be easy for guests to stay in touch and snap photos of the solar eclipse to send to friends and family. How so? Both Seabourn Ovation and Seabourn Sojourn are equipped with SpaceX’s Starlink.

Starlink is the leader in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technology. So, guests will have greater connectivity than in the past and can share their memorable moments.

More Details Coming Soon
